For the vast majority of modern Google apps, version number jumps don’t really signify anything meaningful. That said, YouTube Music just hit version 7.0 and is finally updating its app store screenshots.
This week’s YouTube Music update is widely rolling out and brings the app to version 7.01 (from 6.51). YTM for Android was released on Nov 12, 2015. There’s nothing noticeable, with YouTube Music — and Google apps in general — relying on server-side rollouts.
That said, this update coincides with Google finally updating YouTube Music’s app store screenshots, starting on iOS. YTM is highlighting Now Playing, the radio creator, Samples, the dynamic Home feed, playlists, and YouTube Premium.
They were last updated in 2018 with the big relaunch, and are still in place on the Play Store. We see the old bottom bar with three tabs, including “Trending.”
Recent feature additions include a redesigned Cast menu, podcast sort filters, artist search in the radio creator, “Activity” notifications feed, and a Comments panel revamp. This week, Google announced that YouTube Music Gemini Extension is starting to roll out. That said, we’re not seeing it on our accounts just yet.
