CAST swimmers shine at 2024 Long Bridge Swim: Seventeen of the region’s competitive swimmers with the Coeur d’Alene Area Swim Team competed in the 29th annual Long Bridge Swim in Sandpoint on Saturday.

The top three finishers in the 1.76-mile swim in Lake Pend Oreille were CAST swimmers.

Of the 661 total swimmers who finished the race, the top finisher was Owen Bennett, 15, of Coeur d’Alene, who finished with a time of 36 minutes, 00 seconds. Second place overall and top female finisher was Pema Anain, 17, of Coeur d’Alene, finishing at 36:03. And Trace Bennett of Coeur d’Alene, who turned 13 on race day, finished third at 36:05.

Eight CAST swimmers finished in the top 20 and many were age-group winners, including:

Male age 13-14 — 1, Trace Bennett, Coeur d’Alene, 36:05.

Female 13-14 — 1, Raegan Greiner, Hayden, 41:09.

Male age 15-19 — 1, Dawson Cushman, Hayden, 36:22. 2, Jace Voeller, Hayden, 37:49.

Female 15-19 — 1, Riley Taylor, Coeur d’Alene, 40:42. 3, Rachel Nicholls, Liberty Lake, 41:36.

The camp was organized by Jerry Louie-McGee, who played at Lakeside High in Plummer as a freshman before transferring to Lake City. Louie-McGee, now the head football coach at Lakeside, teamed up with Lake City coaches and players to put on the camp.
