Youngsville Life: Youngsville Library Spring Book “Sale” Fundraiser is today

Youngsville Legion proudly supports Yngs Library: Members of Youngsville American Legion Post 658 presented Youngsville Public Library with a very generous donation to be used towards the library’s operational expenses, programming, and other annual needs. Youngsville Library is holding its second annual Spring Book “Sale” Fundraiser today from 10 am – 4pm. Among the items available at the Spring Book Sale, you’ll find music CDs, DVDs, Christian fiction, large print, children and youth books and other genres. YPL will still have their traditional Fall Book Sale in September, the exact date to be announced closer to September.

LIBRARY NEWS

(a) Career Help: May 22, from 10 am – 1 pm, a representative from PA CareerLinks will be at the Youngsville Library to assist you with resume writing help, job search questions, free training opportunities from a free, PA sponsored database containing over 6,000 skills-training opportunities. There will also be a workshop offered from Noon – 1 pm, that can count towards unemployment search requirements, if needed.

If you’re interested in how to take free classes to increase your employment marketability or even just want to learn how to take some classes for self-improvement, be sure to stop in. (b) Library hours: The Youngsville Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day. The library’s secure drop-box, located to the right of the front doors, is open 24-7 and the YPL’s “free use to the public” wi-fi is always available 24-7. Directions about how to connect to the wi-fi service is located on the front door of the building. Regular business hours will resume on May 28.

(c) Legion Poppies @ YPL: The Youngsville American Legion and Yngs Legion Auxiliary Unit has the Official Red Poppies available at the Youngsville Public Library circulation desk now through Memorial Day. These Official Red Poppies are made by disabled Veterans in Hospitals and are part of a nationwide Fundraising campaign both in memory of and in honor of veterans. A donation jar is next to the Poppies. Donations received will directly benefit our veterans. YPLibrary hours are Monday and Wednesday 10 am – 6 pm, Tuesday 10 am – 3 pm, and Friday 11 am – 4 pm.

(a) BVSP season passes: Don’t miss your chance to get a $10 discount on Season Pool Passes! Brokenstraw Valley Swimming Pool Season Passes are on sale NOW at the Youngsville Borough Office. The opportunity to get a $10 discount on season passes ends on May 31st. BVSP brochures are available at the Youngsville Public Library and Borough office. Season pass at regular prices are as follows: (a) Family Pass (includes 6 people) – $135 with each additional person at $25 per person, (b) Adult – $100 per, (c) Student/Senior – $90 per, (d) Babysitter – $50 per, (e) Swimmercise – $65 each, and (f) Lap Swim – $65. The prices listed here are for Youngsville Borough residents, all other area residents add $10 per category.

(b) Yard Clean-up Help: Need help weeding or mowing your lawn? Would you like help getting that outdoor “to do” list completed? There’s a FREE solution available to you! ROY and the Rouse are presenting: Yard Clean-up Assistance for Homebound Individuals in Youngsville for June 1st and June 2nd. Individuals interested in volunteering to help with this program please email RMartin@rouse.org; this is also a wonderful opportunity for service organizations to help the community as well.

MISCELLANEOUS NEWS

(a) Trail of History Challenge: Warren County Historical Society’s “Warren County Trail of History Challenge IV” kicks off Memorial Day through Labor Day 2024. Back by popular demand, this is a fun opportunity to explore Warren County through Historic Sites. This year there are all new challenges and locations to find. Gas up the car and put on your hiking shoes as you follow the clues to locate each of the historic destinations that will lead you to explore the beauty and significance of Warren County. Find locations, answer questions, and be entered to win a Warren County prize basket. The fun can be done at your own pace.

Cost is $10 per family or group and registration includes: decal, Whirley mug, clue packet, instructions, and the opportunity for lots and lots of fun! (b) Fashion Flaunt Event: May 29 from 6 – 8:30 pm Wilder Museum’s Annual “Fashion Flaunt Fundraiser” theme will be Always a Bridesmaid, never a Bride! (51 Erie Ave., Irvine, PA). Join us for refreshments, an elegant runway show, special displays from Vivian’s Bridal Boutique and Tybout House, the popular “Auction of the Purses’ led by professional auctioneer Scott Amundson and more. (c) Thursday Bingo: Weekly “Bar-Bingo” night is each Thursday at the Youngsville American Legion (10 N. Main St). Bingo starts at 6 pm, Kitchen opens at 5 pm. No smoking allowed at Youngsville American Legion from 5 pm – 9 pm on these weekly Bar-Bingo nights. Bar-bingo is a formal term for this weekly fundraising event and is not intended to imply that bingo participants are required to sit near or at the Legion bar area.

(d) Chapman Park Events: The following are May events located at Chapman State Park (4790 Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon, PA 16313). Registration is required where noted. To register for a program or for more information, please visit the online DCNR Calendar of Events at http://events.dcnr.pa.gov.

Exploring the Night Sky: May 25 and May 26, 9:15 pm – 10:30 pm at Beach Area, no registration. Enjoy stories about the stars, a laser-guided tour of constellations, views of planets and stars through the park telescopes.

Intro to Kayaking: May 27 2-4 pm at Mooring Area, Registration is required. Are you interested in learning how to kayak? Join us to learn what you need to know to enjoy this activity safely and successfully.

(e) Youngsville Ribfest: Youngsville Ribfest, hosted by KAMs Logging Supplies, will be held at Island Park (80 Ford St, Yngs) and will take place May 30 through June 2. There will be Rib and Craft vendors as well as entertainment. Afraid of Human will perform on May 31 from 6 – 10 pm. Smokin’ 45 will perform June 1 from 6 – 10 pm. Please come out and show your community spirit and support while you enjoy fantastic food, crafts, and entertainment at Island Park on May 30 3 pm – 10 pm, May 31 3 – 11 pm, June 1 Noon – 11 pm, and June 2 from Noon – 8 pm.

(f) YHS class reunion: YHS class of 1969 55th Class Reunion will be on Aug. 17, 2024 at the Brokenstraw Valley Winery (100 Hillside Drive, Youngsville) from 4 pm – 11 pm for a social time including a catered dinner buffet. (g) Youngsville Pickle Ball: The Youngsville Area Pickle Ball courts (located at Island Park, Yngs) are now open and ready for play. If you do not have pickle ball equipment, no problem as you can borrow equipment from the Yngs YMCA building (located at Island Park area, on Ford Street).
