Would-be shoplifter attempts to exit Detroit Lakes business with shopping cart of unpaid goods

  • 5:48 p.m.: 10- or 11-year-old child was discovered to be stealing items from a business along East Main Street, Frazee. The child’s parents were spoken to, more stolen items were discovered and they were returned to the business.
  • 6:27 p.m.: Caller reported a large bonfire along Union Street East, Detroit Lakes.
  • 10:36 p.m.: Disturbance was reported at a Loon Drive, Ogema, residence when a couple got into a verbal argument. The couple was separated.
  • 12:45 a.m.: Caller wanted a man removed from a property along West Lake Drive, Detroit Lakes. The man left and was told he would be arrested if he returned.
  • 9:06 a.m.: Caller at a County Highway 34, Ogema, residence reported a dog was entering their property and charging them.
  • 10:11 a.m.: Caller reported suspicious activity along 230th Avenue, Detroit Lakes, when they witnessed what appeared to be a man sleeping in a van. Law enforcement made contact with the man, who was actually drying clothes. He was notified he was on BNSF property and instructed to move along.
  • 2:59 p.m.: Grass fire was reported along Mission Road, Ogema. White Earth Forestry extinguished the fire.
  • 3:13 p.m.: Business along U.S. Highway 10 West, Detroit Lakes, reported a shoplifter who was recorded on video taking shoes the day prior. The person has yet to be identified.
  • 4:14 p.m.: A woman called to report that she was assaulted after asking a man to turn down his music at a residence along County Highway 48, Park Rapids. The woman did not want to press charges but wanted the incident documented.
  • 4:27 p.m.: A woman attempted to exit a business along U.S. Highway 10 West, Detroit Lakes, with a shopping cart of unpaid merchandise. The woman did not get the cart out of the store but left prior to the arrival of law enforcement.
  • 4:28 p.m.: Caller reported disorderly conduct when a man became upset at the Becker County DMV. The man left by the time law enforcement arrived.
  • 6:39 p.m.: Caller reported a minivan with several individuals going door to door offering home repairs along Maple Avenue West, Frazee. The van was located and those inside were advised to contact the city office prior to conducting transient business in town.
  • 7:10 p.m.: Caller at a residence along Dorff Beach Road, Audubon, reported ongoing harassment from neighbors throughout the summer. The caller was advised to seek a harassment restraining order.
  • 2:02 a.m.: Caller reported that a family member put a small dent in a camper along Long Bridge Road, Detroit Lakes, because they were angry.
  • 4:10 a.m.: Caller at an apartment complex along Loring Avenue, Detroit Lakes, reported that they saw someone lurking around the complex. Law enforcement was unable to locate anyone.
  • 8 a.m.: Property owner along Evans Road, Frazee, called to report that two juveniles were on their property. The children left when told and told law enforcement they would not return to the property.
  • 8:40 a.m.: Detroit Lakes bank called on behalf of a customer they believed was being scammed. The customer was buying gift cards and was advised to cut all contact with the person requesting them.
  • 10:56 a.m.: Property damage was reported when a Frazee Public Works vehicle backed into a Frazee squad car.
  • 11:10 a.m.: Cormorant Heights, Audubon, caller reported suspicious activity when a man was parked in their driveway for 30 to 40 minutes. The man in the vehicle got out and walked around the house. The caller’s spouse followed the vehicle and spoke to the man who claimed he was looking for his dog.
  • 11:52 a.m.: Caller at an Eagle View Road, Ogema, residence reported theft of medication.
  • 1:37 p.m.: Caller reported a theft at an Ogema church when a man was caught on camera siphoning gas from the church van.
