The village of Woodsfield has procured $13.5 million for infrastructure improvements projects.
Five projects are slated to benefit from the funding, which will come from loans, grants, and village matching funds.
The work will include improvements to the water and wastewater systems, storm drainage, paving airport road, and creating a walkable path on State Route 78 connecting downtown with the western business district.
“They’re all very much needed grants,” Woodsfield Mayor Carol Hehr said. “We’re excited that we’ve been able to obtain this much money. I think it’s going to be a great improvement in a lot of areas in Woodsfield.”
One of those areas of growth is economic development, where the goal is to bring in more businesses and create more jobs.
“Any type of improvement will help with businesses, as far as businesses coming into town. If we have infrastructure that’s ready for businesses to start up, that’s a big plus,” Hehr said.
The projects are expected to go out to bid in the spring, start this summer, and be completed over the next 18 months.
