A woman specifically told her husband to stop buying houseplants—but instead of listening, he sent her a video.
On February 13, Emily Copeland posted the clip on Reddit, showing her husband smiling nervously before panning to a shopping cart filled with large houseplants. The video has since received 32,000 upvotes and more than 580 comments, with Redditors joking about the inevitable fate of plant lovers.
“Specifically told my husband to stop buying house plants and he sends me this,” Copeland wrote in the post. She told Newsweek that she didn’t expect the post to get so much attention.

Copeland, who originally created her account to showcase her artwork, never expected her husband’s plant obsession to go viral.
“I find it hilarious how much attention my adorable husband has gotten on my Reddit account,” she said. “My latest post of him has over 3 million views—and it’s not even the most attention he’s received. The irony is he doesn’t even use social media. It turns out my artwork gets more attention when my husband is the face of it—multiple people reached out about my original artwork this week and specifically asked me about my plant-obsessed husband.”
Indeed, Redditors were quick to comment on the post of her husband with their own explanations and sympathies for his obsession.
“He didn’t buy it! He adopted it. Rescued it even!” one person joked.
“‘I don’t know what happened, I swear! I was just leaving the store, and this plant appeared in my cart and some money was stolen from my wallet,'” a commenter wrote, imagining Copeland’s husband explaining himself.
A user said they would take a sneakier approach.
“At least you got a video warning you,” they wrote. “I just buy the plant and a cute pot for it and put it somewhere and see if my wife notices (spoiler: she does).”
“I have made that ‘oops I seem to have bought another houseplant’ face far too often,” another added.
This isn’t the first time her husband’s love for plants has made waves online. In a previous post, Copeland shared a photo of his old apartment, which was practically overrun with greenery.
While Copeland may have hoped to curb her husband’s plant addiction, it seems clear that nothing—not even strict shopping instructions—can stop him from bringing more leafy friends home. And based on the response, the internet wouldn’t have it any other way.
