GLASTONBURY, CT (WFSB) – Police responded to an attempted robbery in the parking lot of Stop & Shop on Glastonbury Boulevard.
On Saturday, police stated that several individuals arrived at the grocery store in a stolen car. The suspects attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint after she returned to her car from shopping, police said.
The victim fled the scene and was not injured. No property was stolen, according to police.
Police believe this robbery attempt was part of a pattern of similar thefts throughout the state.
This incident is still being investigated, according to police.
Customers at the Stop & Shop in Glastonbury are reacting to the scary situation that unfolded late Saturday morning.
“You shouldn’t have to worry about being held up at a grocery store,” said Patrick Gaunce, a Glastonbury resident.
“To think someone would be stuck up at gunpoint on the weekend grocery shopping…. that’s terrible. I couldn’t imagine. I couldn’t imagine,” said Neida Rivera, East Hartford resident.
Rivera works in nearby Middletown and said she often stops at the Stop & Shop on Glastonbury Boulevard to pick up groceries on her way home.
She was surprised to hear something like this would happen in the area, especially in broad daylight.
“Especially this Stop & Shop in Glastonbury where it’s so nice and you would think it’s nice and safe. You know, that’s all we really want is to be safe,” Rivera said.
Safety is also a top priority for shopper Patrick Guance who just moved to the area.
“It’s a little concerning. My wife and I just moved here from Texas and came here thinking it’s a very safe area and we’ve already had our car broken into. And now with this going on, it’s a little concerning,” Guance said. “You always have to keep an eye out for your situation.”
Witnesses or anyone with information about the attempted robbery are asked to call Officer Barrett at 860-652-4268.
