WKRC’s John Gumm to share alerting best practices  – TV News Check

Must read

In a hotly competitive media environment, weather and news alerts top the list of strategies for cementing relationships with audiences, even as technology streamlines — and in some cases can automate — the workflows for creating and sending them. Veteran meteorologist John Gumm, who heads the weather effort at WKRC Cincinnati, will talk about the changing world of alerting during a Sept. 26 webinar presented by TVNewsCheck and The Weather Company. Speakers (l-r) are The Weather Company’s Joe DiGiovanni, Gumm and TVNewsCheck’s Kathy Haley. Register here.

Award-winning meteorologist John Gumm, who leads the weather team at Sinclair’s WKRC Cincinnati, will share his best practices for using alerting to stay in touch with audiences during a webinar at 1 p.m. ET on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Joining Gumm on the webinar, which will be presented by TVNewsCheck and The Weather Company, will be fellow meteorologist Joe DiGiovanni, who heads North American Sales for the weather technology provider.

Gumm, who can be seen Monday through Friday on WKRC’s 5, 6, 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts, has been working in broadcast TV meteorology for more than 25 years, with stints at WHBF Rock Island, Ill., and WCTI New Bern, N.C.  He reported live for 12 hours during Hurricane Katrina during his years at WWL New Orleans, where his work earned him the Best Weathercast in Louisiana Award from the Associated Press.

DiGiovanni was chief meteorologist at KMSP Minneapolis and KTSM El Paso, Texas, before joining the sales team at Weather Central, which was acquired by The Weather Company in 2012.

In the webinar, DiGiovanni will highlight the advances in weather technology that make it easier to include rich, high-quality graphics in broadcast alerts for weather and beyond. Why not make alerting easier and faster with a tool that is already built into the Max technology that most meteorologists use every day?
