There is still some work left, but downtown Emporia’s major street resurfacing project is into the home stretch.
Repaving, the main component of the city’s annual CCLIP project, got done late last week for the north leg — 12th between Commercial and Merchant, as well as Merchant from 12th to Interstate 35. The south leg, Commercial between Kansas Avenue and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad, was handled early this month.
Striping remains for the entire project, which is a cost-share effort between the city and Kansas Department of Transportation.
Meanwhile, work continues for the city’s Street Preservation crack seal and chip seal project affecting work zones on nearly 15 streets. That project should wrap up next month. The 24th and Prairie waterline replacement project will go into summer or fall 2025, while the Interstate 35 bridge replacement project over Lincoln Street — a state-led project — will also continue into next year, although there are plans to pause that project for the winter.
