Case in point: Google searches globally for “blue long dress” and “black tux” went up by 231% and 233%, respectively, after the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Royal Variety Show appearance in London, fashion experts at Karen Millen said.
Princess Kate wore a blue cape evening gown and Prince William wore a black velvet tux instead of his customary navy tux.
Kate’s electric-blue dress by Safiyaa London is a boat-neck gown with split sleeves, which she wore with matching Gianvito Rossi heels, a silver Jenny Packham Casa clutch, J.Crew crystal and pearl earrings and a wide-cuffed bejeweled bracelet.
Searches for “Gianvito Rossi” also soared by 301% and searches for “J Crew earrings” jumped by 614%.
“The surge in interest for Kate and William’s style choices is a testament to their status as a stylish power couple and attests to the quality of the labels they wear,” said a spokesperson for Karen Millen.
“Like her late mother-in-law, Kate has proven her enduring ability to inspire style and generate global brand exposure. It will be interesting to see if the increase in searches for blue long dress and black tux leads to a boost in sales for these occasion-wear pieces.”
