Wildcats Spring Sports Update (May 29, 2024)

Warwick defeated Minisink Valley 17-7 to capture the 2024 Section 9 Class B boys lacrosse championship on May 25 at Middletown’s Faller Field. The title was the sixth straight for the Wildcats and the 10th overall as a program.

Ryan Sullivan scored four goals and Dylan Sullivan added three to lead the Warwick attack. Kevin Ginley, Joey Finn and Anthony Mazza each scored twice. Goalie Luke Solari had 20 saves.

The Wildcats will face the winner of today’s East Islip vs. South Side game in the state quarterfinals at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Faller Field.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Warwick’s Hannah Cann, Lily Beattie, Erin Smith, and Reagan Smith are the 2024 Section 9 Class A champions in the 400-meter relay with a time of 49.09 seconds. The time broke the 29-year-old school record set in 1995 by Jamie Hedgecock, Meg Linkh, Bridgette McGovern and Lesley Kamarad.

Beattie also won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, six inches. Rachel Venter placed third (10-6).

Cann finished second in the long jump (17-3.75), Erin Smith was third in the 100 (12.88) and Reagan Smith was fourth in the 400 (59.98).

Lillian Rother placed second in the shot put (30-0.8), and Sarah Hertner finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:10.15).

The Wildcats will be competing in the Section 9 state qualifying meet on Thursday in New Paltz and on Friday in Goshen.

BOYS TRACK

Warwick’s Luke Beattie finished first in the 100-meter dash in 10.93 and won the pole vault (16-0). Beattie also finished fourth in the 400 with a personal record of 50.15.

Klaus Lindenau was third on the pole vault (12-0) and teammate Anthony Roe finished fourth (11-6).

GIRLS LACROSSE

The Wildcats successful season ended with an 11-8 loss to Minisink Valley in the Section 9 Class B championship game. Kiera Mangels scored three goals to lead Warwick. Ava Fanos and Kaitlyn Larney each had two goals and Kelsy Larney had one goal.

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Warwick lost 4-1 to eventual Section 9 champion Minisink Valley in the Class AA semifinals on May 22. Olivia Martino drove in Annie Lincoln (double) for Warwick’s run. Amanda Larsen took the loss.

 GIRLS GOLF

 Warwick’s Gina Milazzo finished second in the Section 9 girls golf championships at Apple Greens Golf Course on May 22.

Milazzo, the winner of the previous three Section 9 titles, shot a 75 in the first round and 82 in the second round to finish seven stroke behind Goshen’s Isabella Ok.

Milazzo advances to the state championships on June 1-2 at The Edison Club in Rexford.

BOYS GOLF

Warwick’s Quinn Boudreau qualified for the state championships by shooting rounds of 76 and 83 at the Section 9 tournament. His score of 159 was good for seventh place. The state tournament is June 1-2 at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira.
