Minn. (KEYC) – Minnesota families participating in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children program can now use their WIC card to shop online at most Hy-Vee stores in the state as part of an online shopping pilot program.
The program started its pilot in February of this year at a Hy-Vee in Brooklyn Park, which had shown interest in providing the service.
With the success of the pilot, WIC moved to expand the program, and in May was able to include most Hy-Vee stores into the program.
“A huge option and help in terms of convenience for young families to access healthy foods but do so through an online opportunity where they can order their foods from home or wherever they’re at,” Minnesota WIC Director Kate Franken said.
Families that use WIC can now order food online from participating Hy-Vees. Delivery is avilable for an additional fee, which cannot be paid uisng WIC benefits.
The online shopping program was made possible by a sub-grant from the Center for Nutrition and Health Impact and was done in partnership with Iowa WIC, Nebraska WIC and online WIC EBT.
