If traditional events like the upcoming Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona 2025 half marathon don’t scratch your itch for a chaotically fun race, the Phoenix Idiotarod shopping cart race might be exactly what you’re looking for.

Yes, it’s time to gather at least four of your best “idiot” friends, plan the best group costume, decorate your shopping cart and race through downtown Phoenix, stopping at checkpoint challenges along the way.

And the best part? Sabotaging your competitors is not only allowed but encouraged. OK, maybe the actual best part is that the proceeds from the event go to a local charity which will be revealed at a later time.

The Arizona Cacophony Society has put the Idiotarod on nearly every year since 2007 and is not only a race but also a bar crawl, art spectacle and a way to bring people downtown to experience the urban life.

Idiotarod Phoenix 2025: How to enter

If you’re interested in participating, the entry fee is $50 per team and there will be a limit of 36 teams.

Go to azcacophony.org/idiotarod/register.html to reserve your spot.

The race will start around noon or 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8, and participants will be notified of the starting location by email the day before the race.

Keep an eye on azcacophony.org or the Arizona Cacophony Society Instagram page for updates.
