University View Academy is expanding its footprint along Bennington Avenue.
The online charter school demolished the former Semolina’s/Dior Bar and Lounge building at 4619 Bennington and is converting the property to a parking lot.
Traci Payne, a spokeswoman for University View, said the plan is to have parking from the corner of Jamestown Avenue to the Lynx Den, the school’s science, technology, engineering, arts and math activity center. School officials have said the plan is to eventually expand on the parking spaces.
University View operates a K-12 online charter school that has more than 3,600 students statewide and 300 teachers and staff. The school’s operations are centered around Bennington and Valley Creek Drive. A number of buildings in the area, including the former Comfort Suites University Hotel and the Triple A Bar have been turned into teaching space and student centers.
