KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Senior Advisor to President Joe Biden and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Perez will be in Kalamazoo Thursday to visit the city’s infrastructure projects.
The projects the White House official will be touring are supported through Biden’s Investing in America Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, funding from the American Bipartisan Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), as well as other local, state, and federal sources, officials said.
Perez will also be the featured speaker at a community education event, hosted at the Edison Neighborhood Association on Washington Avenue, to mark Kalamazoo’s five-thousandth lead service line replacement, according to the city.
In May, the Biden-Harris administration gave Michigan nearly $62 million to replace 1.7 million lead pipes, which was part of the bipartisan infrastructure law.
Prior to the community education event, officials said Perez will tour the following locations:
- LaCrone Park (535 W. Paterson St.), Northside LSLR Project
- Northside Association for Community Development (612 N. Park St.)
- Ransom Street work
- Inkster Avenue Bridge
- Whites Road construction
- South Westnedge Avenue construction
Perez is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m.
