HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – Officials announced the $40 million dollar project for water infrastructure in Buckhorn is in the completion stage.
Leaders from several levels in Eastern Kentucky gathered at Hazard City Hall for an announcement regarding that infrastructure.
More than $10 million was given by the Economic Development Administration toward that project. At least 11 grants through several years have now led to the completed funding.
The project includes a new water treatment plant in Buckhorn along with transmission lines.
“This is a heart-throbbing moment for Hazard, Perry County, and east Kentucky. For so many years the community of Buckhorn has been without water for 30 days perhaps. This will enable Buckhorn to have their own water treatment plant,” said Rep. Hal Rogers (R-5th District).
Officials said the transmission lines will benefit community members and the regional industrial park.
Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) released the following statement regarding the announcement:
“I’m grateful to see these federal funds help upgrade this essential service to the community and set the stage for future growth in the region. My top priority remains to help our state rebuild and ensure the people of Eastern Kentucky have what they need from the federal government,” said McConnell.
Buckhorn Mayor Simmie Bowling said community members are excited about the project.
