Virginia Tech Football News: Transfer Portal Addition, Tucker Holloway Coming Back

Must read

Over the last couple of days, the Virginia Tech football team has received good news in terms of transfer portal commitments and retainment for the 2025 season. After a season of a ton of retainment last year, we’ll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Football News with another Hokie announcing he’s returning next season.

Tucker Holloway returning in 2025

When the Hokies lost wide receiver Tucker Holloway for the season, it was a big loss for Brent Pry. The loss was not going to feel as much on offense with all the talent Virginia Tech had, but it was really felt on special teams as he was one of the best punt returners in the ACC. On Sunday, he announced that he’s returning for next season and that’s a big announcement.

This season in his absence, Jaylin Lane handled the punt return duties for the most part, but he’s not going to play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl next month against Minnesota. That will leave the punt return duties to some of the younger players, but Holloway coming back is huge for 2025.

Kelvin Gilliam returning in 2025

Holloway isn’t the only Hokie coming back next season. Defensive lineman Kelvin Gilliam announced on his X account that is coming back in 2025. The Oklahoma transfer last year and Richmond native had 31 tackles for Virginia Tech this season with one sack and a forced fumble. Like in the secondary, the defensive line is losing some players, which is why it’s important that Gilliam returns.

Khurtiss Perry officially enters the transfer portal

Earlier this month, it was reported by Pete Nakos of On3 that Hokies defensive lineman Khurtiss Perry, who transferred in the spring from Alabama, was going to enter the transfer portal. Sunday, he officially entered the portal and it will be interesting to see where he ends up for next season.

Jordan Scruggs commits to West Virginia

Earlier this month, the Hokies hosted South Alabama transfer Jordan Scruggs who would have been a nice addition to the secondary. The All-Sun Belt cornerback committed to West Virginia. Over the last five days, Virginia Tech had landed three portal players for the secondary, Clemon’s Sherrod Covil, Jr., East Carolina’s Isaiah Brown-Murray, and Tyson Flowers from Rice.
