Allison Vento

Current Pomfret Town Clerk Allison Vento will become the new executive director of Chautauqua County water and sewer districts Jan. 1.

The town has posted legal notices in the OBSERVER seeking someone to fill the rest of Vento’s term. The appointee will take Vento’s desk at Pomfret Town Hall on Jan. 1, but will have to run for re-election in November 2025.

Vento was appointed a deputy town clerk in 2009 and named to fill the top clerk position in 2013, after Roberta Valentine retired. Vento subsequently ran for election to the post and won. She was re-elected without opposition afterwards.

Vento’s new position includes leadership of the North County Water District. Her current boss, Pomfret Town Supervisor Dan Pacos, chairs the district’s board.

“I’ve been offered an opportunity to grow professionally and personally with this new position at Chautauqua County,” Vento said. “I’m looking forward to using my experience, training, and education in this new endeavor. This was an extremely difficult, bittersweet decision as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed serving the residents of the Town of Pomfret and Village of Fredonia. I am forever grateful for the support shown to me within the community and I will carry it with me always.”
