The District of Vanderhoof has unveiled its draft 2023 Annual Report for public review. The report, which will be presented at the regular council meeting on June 24, details the year’s financial statements and council and staff activities, in addition to last year’s successes and 2024 objectives.

In his opening remarks, Mayor Kevin Moutray praised significant advancements for 2023, notably the acquisition of the Northside Water System on Hamilton Avenue. “This was a key strategic opportunity for the District and is a critical investment in our future,” said Moutray. “Ownership of the utility allows us to take advantage of municipally available opportunities which allow for growth and development and ensures quality water will continue to be provided to residents north of the Nechako River.”

Another major highlight is the completion of the new Public Works building. This modern facility, equipped with essential tools and equipment, supports the management and maintenance of municipal services, the report reads. “Once the Public Works team is fully moved in and settled, the facility will support the quality work they do for our community every day,” Moutray added.

Enhancements to the Vanderhoof Tourism and Cultural Centre also featured prominently in the report.

Moutray extended his gratitude to the community, stating, “The efforts and dedication of our residents, staff, and business partners to making Vanderhoof a better place to live, work, and visit are truly appreciated. Because of these successes, Vanderhoof continues to grow into a vibrant and thriving community.”

Looking ahead, the 2024 priorities outlined in the report reflect a focus on organizational development, active living, community engagement, economic diversification, and service excellence. These goals include ensuring a full complement of staff, developing professional opportunities, implementing recommendations from the Active Transportation Plan, updating communications policies, and advocating for health care and RCMP facilities.

The report underscores a commitment to maintaining service levels, managing assets rigorously, and addressing housing demands through infrastructure investments. Flood mitigation efforts and climate change adaptation strategies also feature prominently among the planned initiatives.

The full draft report is available on the district’s website.
