US Presidential Election 2024: Betting tips and guide

Must read

Anybody who thinks politics is boring needs to take a look across the Atlantic to America. Joe Biden is seeking to be re-elected for a second term as President of the USA.

But the current President is struggling to maintain control of his party, never mind convince the American people he is the right man for the job.

With the 2024 Presidential Election just weeks away, Biden is running out of time to turn opinion back in his favour, and in the latest US election odds, Donald Trump is now the overwhelming favourite to win the race for the White House.

For those looking to place a bet on the outcome, numerous betting sites are offering competitive odds on the 2024 Presidential Election.

US election betting markets

There is a lot more to betting on the US Presidential Election than just wagering on who gets to live in the White House for the next four years.

As well as betting on who will be the next President of the United States, there are also odds available on who will be the Vice President nominees, the winning party, the popular vote, and there is individual betting on which party will win each of the 50 states.

There are three front runners in the betting to win the 2024 US Presidential Election, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump. Joe Biden is the current President. But due to questions about his suitability for office, Biden’s Vice-President, Kamala Harris, is also included among the betting favourites in case Biden doesn’t run.

Joe Biden

Joe Biden is the serving President of the United States of America. Biden is the 46th President, and is seeking re-election for a second term in the White House. At 81 years old, Biden’s age has become a focal point of the election.

Attempts by Biden to convince the American public he is still capable of doing the job have gone spectacularly wrong in recent months with his poor showing at the first live televised TV debate followed by some embarrassing gaffs at a recent NATO summit.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump became the 45th President of the USA when he defeated Hilary Clinton to win the US Presidential Election in 2016. The result of the election was a shock with Clinton as short as 1/3 on the day of the vote.

After losing to Joe Biden in controversial style in 2020, Trump is looking to become only the second President in history to be elected to two nonconsecutive terms.

Kamala Harris

As the current Vice-President to Joe Biden, Kamala Harris is the presumed choice to step in if Joe Biden decides not to run for re-election in 2024.

Harris has steadfastly backed Biden. But it’s highly unlikely she would turn down the chance to contest the election should Biden stand aside for a different candidate.

US election winning party odds

A bet on the winning party is a bet on whether it will be the Republican Party, the Democratic Party, or an Independent candidate that wins the 2024 Presidential Election.

The Republican Party are the current betting favourites.

*Odds are subject to change

Democratic

There is currently some uncertainty around who will lead the Democrats into the 2024 US Election. So if you think that the Democrats will win, rather than betting on Joe Biden to win the Presidential Election, it would make more sense to instead wager on the Democrats to be the winning party.

Republican

Donald Trump looks locked in to be the Republican candidate on the ballot paper in 2024. A bet on the Republican Party is essentially a bet on Trump unless something dramatic happens over the next few months.

Independent

It is possible for candidates that are not affiliated to either of the two main parties to stand. One of the most high profit Independent candidates is Robert Francis Kennedy Jr., who happens to be the son of Robert F. Kennedy, and a nephew of former US President. John F. Kennedy.

Democratic nominee odds

The Democratic nominee is currently Joe Biden. Biden is under pressure to step aside, with Kamala Harris the favourite to take over if the President changes his mind. Other names in the frame are Gavin Newson and Michelle Obama.

Republican nominee odds

Donald Trump is the nominee to represent the Republican Party. He was sworn in on July 15th, 2024, just days after surviving an attempt on his life. Trump ran an effective campaign seeing off rivals like Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Nikki Hayley. Some of his wins in the primaries were achieved with ease.

The former President has also portrayed himself as an embattled man of the people, fighting against state institutions such as the supreme court and has also been involved in high profile courtroom showdowns in New York and Florida.

Democratic VP nominee odds

Kamala Harris is already on the ticket to be the Democratic Vice-President. If Harris ends up taking over the Presidential nominee then she will need to name a new Vice-President to be her running mate.

Harris isn’t too popular with Americans, with polling averages from FiveThirtyEight suggesting that 51 percent of Americans disapprove of the current VP. Despite this, she is still the favourite to step in should Biden stand aside.

At the moment it’s unclear if Harris would pick any of her potential rivals to take over from Biden as her running mate. Names in the frame are Gretchen Whitmer, Gavin Newsom and Pete Buttigieg.

Republican VP nominee odds

Along with Trump being named as the Republican nominee in recent days, outspoken Senator JD Vance was also named as his running mate for the 2024 US Election.

Vance is a 39-year-old who has gone from previously describing Trump as an ‘idiot’ to the verge of becoming the next Vice President to the former Commander in Chief. It has been a remarkable turnaround for the Ohio Senator.

Unless there is a typical Trump-style bombshell dropped, the Republican VP nominee betting market is closed for now.

US election state betting

It is possible to bet on who will win the popular vote in each individual state. A lot of states are traditionally Republican or Democratic, meaning the odds can be very one-sided.

The swing states are where the betting value is to be found and where the Presidential Election is usually decided. Often described as the battleground to where the election will be won and lost, the key swing states in 2024 are expected to be Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

US election popular vote betting

A bet on the popular vote is a bet on which party will receive the most votes across the whole of America.

The winner of the election isn’t always the party that receives the most votes across the nation. The Presidential vote is decided by the Electoral College process, which is made up of who wins each individual state. This means a candidate wins the election by how many states he or she wins, not by simply getting the most votes nationwide.

In 2000 and 2016, the winner of the Presidential Election lost the popular vote. In 2024 there is a chance that this can happen again as the Democratic Party are favourites to win the popular vote and lose the Presidential election.
