Nationally ranked in nine pediatric specialties, #2 Children’s Hospital in North Carolina
Chapel Hill, N.C. – UNC Children’s in Chapel Hill, N.C. has been ranked among the nation’s top children’s hospitals for the 16th straight year as rated by U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Children’s Hospitals” report. UNC Children’s is nationally ranked in nine out of 11 pediatric specialties for 2024 – 2025.
Hospital specialties must be graded among the top 50 hospitals in the U.S. to be considered “nationally ranked.” Locally, UNC Children’s was ranked as the #2 children’s hospital in North Carolina and #4 in the Southeast region.
New Pediatric Ranking: Behavioral Health
This year, the U.S. News rankings include a new specialty, Pediatric & Adolescent Behavioral Health, the first specialty added to Best Children’s Hospitals in more than a decade and a half.
UNC Children’s is rated among the inaugural class of the nation’s best children’s hospitals for pediatric & adolescent behavioral health.
As U.S. News explains, its approach to evaluating this specialty was undertaken with input and encouragement from pediatric healthcare leaders and with a keen awareness of consumers’ informational demands.

In the 2024-2025 rankings, 88 hospitals ranked among the best in at least one pediatric medical specialty.
This year’s rankings were created from data collected through a clinical survey sent to children’s hospitals and a survey sent to thousands of pediatric doctors nationwide.
