TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WTOC) – With how much rain people on Tybee Island are already seeing from Debby, many are taking to the local grocery store to prepare should they have to stay on the island.
The IGA is already swamped with people trying to stock up.
It’s been a busy day, and will likely be busy for the next few days for people working at the IGA, the only grocery store here on Tybee.
With some islanders concerned about flooding, especially on highway 80, many took a trip to the store on Monday hoping to stock up in case they get stuck.
The store says it’s doing its best to stay open, not taking its role as the only grocery store on the island lightly.
Employees say with a recent delivery just Monday, they’re in a good place should the weather take a turn for the worst.
“We have a lot of back stock of stuff upstairs, so a lot of us that work here do live on the island, so if our truck on Wednesday can’t get here, we’ve got stuff to push on out,” said employee Zoey Anderson.
Other preparations the store is looking at taking include adding sandbags around the door to keep things secure.
