An ALDOT project that kicks off next week will give 70,000 daily drivers a bit more space in Madison – after about two years.
Overnight work is scheduled to begin Sunday to widen I-565 through the city, according to a Department of Transportation news release. The $29 million project will expand the interstate spur to six lanes. Wiregrass Construction is the contractor.
The project will run from west of County Line Road to east of Wall Triana Highway. It includes adding a third lane to each roadway and widening bridges at Bradford Creek just west of Exit 9 — Wall Triana Highway — and at Intergraph Way and the Norfolk Southern railroad just east of Exit 9, ALDOT said.
