Two awarded Acquavia Memorial Scholarship

The 2024 Frank Acquavia Memorial Scholarship was presented to Brooke Jasinski and Zachary Zentz recently at Dunkirk Memorial Post 62. The Scholarship is awarded to a candidate who is either a veteran or a member of their immediate family, and must be a resident of Dunkirk or Fredonia.

Jasinski is the daughter of Robin and Kevin Jasinski of Dunkirk and the granddaughter of Joseph Jasinski, a United States Army veteran. She is a graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School as well as the Valedictorian of the Class of 2022. She is currently entering her junior year of college at SUNY Fredonia earning dual majors in BFA Acting and BS Dance. She enjoys participating in Main Street Studios Community Theatre Project in Fredonia and the Orchesis Dance Company at SUNY Fredonia.

Zentz is a senior at Dunkirk High School Class of 2024. He is the son of Steven and Denise Zentz and the grandson of Edward Zentz, who was a veteran in the United States Navy. As a student at Dunkirk High, he was a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Class President, captain of the Varsity Cross Country and Baseball teams. He has volunteered many hours giving back to the community with the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation, as well as one of the founding members of the Unified Sports Program in Dunkirk, and a proud supporter and coordinator of Special Olympics. He also attended the 2023 American Legion Boys State program. He will continue his education at SUNY Fredonia majoring in Criminal Justice.

“Congratulations to these two remarkable recipients and wish them success in their future endeavors,” legion officials noted.
