Trojans edge Hillbillies in OT 2-1

WEST ELLICOTT — The Southwestern girls soccer team once again found itself in overtime with hopes of a league title on the line.

The Trojans did not wait the full 100 minutes for a hero to emerge on Thursday evening, instead Lucy Brown connected with Marlana Cresanti in the 82nd minute for the golden goal 2-1 in Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 1 action at Charles A. Lawson Field.

Fredonia netted the first goal of the game in the 14th minute when Cece Tonelli finished off a Haylee Babar pass. However, Southwestern shortly had an answer when Brown scored a goal from Cresanti in the 19th minute.

Naomi Muck stole the show for the Hillbillies as she made 19 saves in net, while on the other end Braya Beaver made two saves.

The Trojans (9-4-0, 7-2-0) travel to Allegany-Limestone next Thursday with a shot to share the league title.

Fredonia (6-8-0, 3-5-0) next hosts Allegany-Limestone on Tuesday for its Senior Night and could play spoiler in the race for the league title against the Gators and then Thursday at Falconer/Cassadaga Valley/Maple Grove.

GRAHAM LIFTS WOLVERINES

WESTFIELD — Grace Graham’s goal in the second half lifted Westfield/Brocton past North Collins 3-2 in Division 3 action.

Prior to assisting the game-winning goal, Naomi Ottey scored once for the Wolverines (3-7-1, 2-6-0) and Avery Swank had the team’s first tally. Colie Bundy made 11 saves to claim the victory.

North Collins falls to 8-5-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the league.

PORTVILLE ROLLS

SOUTH DAYTON — Emma Rhinehart scored once and set up three goals as Portville rolled past Pine Valley/Gowanda 10-0 in Division 2.

Both Grace Gariepy and Gianna Aloi scored twice for Portville (12-1-0, 10-0-0), Lauren Lyle had a goal and an assist, Kiyah Mohr, Ashley Carls, Ella Zeigler and Julia Layton had a goal each and Allie Bray made one assist. Bella Morales was not tested in the clean sheet effort for the winners.

Pine Valley/Gowanda (4-10-0, 3-7-0) goalkeeper Destiny Lindquist made 23 saves in the loss.

EAGLES KEEP CLEAN SHEET

FRANKLINVILLE — Drew Ficek set up two goals in Ellicottville’s 3-0 win over Franklinville in Division 2 action.

Julianna O’Connell, Juleana Lyon and Addison John had a goal each in the win for Ellicottville (10-3-1, 7-2-1), while Courtney Marsh made four saves.

Franklinville stumbles to 1-11-1 overall and 1-10-0 in the league.

CARDS CRUISE

RANDOLPH — Sadie Steward scored a hat trick as Randolph dominated Salamanca 7-0 in Division 2.

Ava Sears, Quinn Pence and Gianna Bowles had a goal and an assist each for the Cardinals (9-3-1, 8-1-1), Aryana Sears had two helpers and Sara Smith scored once. Stella Smith was called upon for six saves in the clean sheet bid.

Aaliyah Winship made 15 saves for Salamanca (5-7-1, 5-6-0).
