TRENDING RUMORS

Manchester United have joined Newcastle and Arsenal in the race to sign Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, says The Daily Star. Mbeumo, 25, joined from French club Troyes in 2019 for a club-record £5.9 million but the Cameroon international could double his wages with a move to a bigger club and Brentford could listen to offers at around £40m. He has scored 13 goals in 20 Premier League games so far this season.

Real Madrid winger Vinícius Júnior remains on the radar of the Saudi Pro League, reports Relevo. It is reported that the league are prepared to make the 24-year-old the face of their competition should he accept a move there, and they are preparing to offer him a significant contract amid hopes of persuading him to decide against extending his stay at the Bernabéu. He has previously been linked with Al Ahli and has a release clause of €1 billion.

Manchester City remain keen on Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães, reports Gazzetta dello Sport. The Premier League club are said to be “working” on a move for the 27-year-old, but amid concerns of being able to meet his €100m valuation, the Citizens are considering Real Sociedad‘s Martín Zubimendi, 25, as a potential alternative. Guimarães has remained a key player for Newcastle this season, registering an assist in his 20th league appearance of the season in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Paris Saint-Germain winger Marco Asensio could leave the Parc des Princes this month, reports RMC Sport. The 28-year-old is believed to be on the radar of Aston Villa, who are exploring whether they could tempt him to Villa Park. Asensio joined PSG after leaving Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2023, but he has seen a reduction in game time recently, having not started a league game since November 22, with just 18 minutes played as a substitute since then.

– Multiple clubs are interested in Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, reports Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg. Manchester United are reported to have been in contact with the 26-year-old’s representatives with interest in signing him on an initial loan deal that would include an option to become permanent, while Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, and AC Milan also remain in the race to sign him. Kolo Muani has made just two Ligue 1 starts so far this season.

EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Sam Tighe looks at why Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is attracting so much attention.

Mbeumo’s star has steadily been rising since entering the Premier League in 2021, and 3½ seasons on, there can be no doubt: He is a superb, difference-making, versatile attacker who would improve just about any side.

He’s currently on track to score 20+ goals in the league, building on consecutive seasons in which he registered 15 and 17 combined goals and assists respectively. That’s the sort of production that turns heads and, at 25 years of age, he’s hitting his prime.

Technically he’s sound, with a neat touch and an explosive step, and he’s got a healthy amount of pace that can stretch defences. He is so dangerous when cutting in off the right flank, on to his left foot, and either shooting or finding the right pass. He can also play off the left flank, or in support of a target striker from a more central position, with aplomb.

Many Liverpool fans have long had their eye on him as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah if and when the time comes, so they’ll be dismayed to see other top Premier League clubs taking a good look at him. His dynamic, difference-making ability would lift Arsenal and Manchester United, while he’d be a great fit for Newcastle United on the right.
