Nuno Espirito Santo says Nottingham Forest’s priority this January is still to keep their best players at the club, after seeing prize asset Murillo put pen to paper on a new contract.

The defender this week signed a deal that runs until 2029, prompting Nuno to state his delight at the defender signing on for the long term.

With 14-goal striker Chris Wood understood to have verbally agreed terms over a new two-year contract, talks are also ongoing with defender Ola Aina who is out of contract in the summer, although there is an option to extend his deal for a further season.

Brentford have turned down a £22million offer for Yoane Wissa, who remains a target for Forest, as they look to bolster their attacking options. Forest have been linked with Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha, but a deal is unlikely at this stage. Nuno said:

💬 “We are working; the club is working. Things are going well, not only with Chris but also with others. More than anything, the club is working on the basis the basic is to keep our players here. This is the squad we have, these are the players who will solve all our problems.

“It is not easy to operate in this market, particularly when we only consider options that will improve us. It is not easy to land your targets. Which is why I also say it the other way around: let’s keep our players here.

“We need only players who will improve us and that is not easy because our players are working very, very well.”
