CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Parents are getting ready to send children back to the classroom, which means back-to-school shopping is in full swing.
According to a recent survey by NerdWallet, parents plan to spend an average of about $540 on school shopping.
For many parents, all the shopping can be overwhelming and expensive. Fortunately, there are several ways to save.
One way is to audit what is already at home. Some supplies from last year may still be good to reuse. Buying in bulk can also help, especially when splitting costs with other parents. Checking for sales is also a helping way to save, with most big stores currently offering special back-to-school prices.
Target is one store putting on sales, with teachers eligible for a one-time 20% off discount through Aug. 24. College students can get a one-time 20% off discount through Sept. 28. Other students can purchase from the 20 for $20 supplies list, which is a list of popular supplies that add up to $20.
“Guests are being more intentional about how they’re spending and we just want to make it easy and affordable for them,” Target store director Rochelle Bouler said. “So lots of coupons, lots of discounts and promotions that we’re running in the store.”
Most store websites also allow shoppers to search for their child’s school and access its shopping list. There are also several upcoming giveaways to help families who cannot afford supplies.
