Unsurprisingly, half of the top ten most searched keywords are related to social media.
In the digital age, Internet users hold the whole world wide web in their hands. Currently, there are millions of active sites that serve different purposes — from entertainment to education. Most of the information you need is one Google search away.
To gain a better understanding of some of the more popular interests and inquiries, a recent study by Search Logistics, using data from SimilarWeb, has looked into 2024’s top ten most searched keywords on Google. The results are as follows:
Top 10 search terms by volume
1 | youtube | 336,261,050 |
2 | 229,238,150 | |
3 | pornhub | 191,271,100 |
4 | weather | 147,674,730 |
5 | amazon | 147,138,380 |
6 | translate | 128,814,660 |
7 | xvideos | 113,608,060 |
8 | gmail | 109,148,310 |
9 | 101,879,520 | |
10 | whatsapp web | 100,712,230 |
Unsurprisingly, half of the top ten most searched keywords are related to social media — reflecting the importance of communication, in one form or another, as a major cultural value. However, the study also noted some keywords in the top ten list that stood out as outliers.
“The key difference being that the previous search words mentioned are platforms used recreationally.”
Conversely, terms such as “weather,” “amazon,” and “translate” are things people search out of necessity or for functional reasons.
Mathew Woodward from Search Logistics comments: “The links between these ten most searched keywords not only give a glimpse into society as a whole, but also track the shifting preferences of an ever-changing modern culture.’
