These are the top-ranked high schools in each N.J. county

Must read

New Jersey has some of the best public high schools in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Each year, the magazine collects information about nearly 25,000 participating high schools across the nation for its rankings. This year, 42 New Jersey schools ranked in the top 5% on the U.S. News list.

High Technology High School in Lincroft ranked as both the top high school in Monmouth County and the top high school in New Jersey on the 2024 list. Students in Monmouth County must apply to attend the specialized, highly-competitive public high school. (See the full lists of top high schools for each county below.)

NJ Advance Media analyzed the U.S. News data to rank the high schools in each of New Jersey’s 21 counties. The rankings include local high schools and charter schools. They also include magnet and specialized high schools that require admissions tests.

U.S. News ranks schools based on: state assessments in math, science and reading; performance on college-level exams; and four-year graduation rates. The rankings also consider the breadth of the curriculum offered, and success rates of Black, Hispanic and low-income students.

Schools at the bottom of U.S. News’ list did not receive numerical rankings. Instead, they are listed as “unranked.”
