PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Memorial Day sales are already happening ahead of the long weekend, but some sales are better than others.
“I believe that we will see even deeper discounts this upcoming Memorial Day in an effort to get people out shopping and to boost those sales,” said money-saving mom Andrea Woroch.
Many of the advertised sales you see are the real deal. “Big ticket items for your home, whether it’s an appliance, furniture, or a new mattress, we always see big stores like Lowe’s, the Home Depot, Macy’s and furniture stores releasing big sales on these items,” Woroch said. “You’re looking anywhere from 30 to 40% discounts on home appliances and up to 50% savings on mattresses or furniture like a new couch or dining set.”
On the flip side, there are some sales to skip. “Don’t be fooled by some of the sales that might be offered over Memorial Day, especially when it comes to your summer items, whether it’s summer fashion, swim suits, sandals, beach gear, as well as your outdoor entertaining essentials,” Woroch said. “You’re much better off waiting mid-to-end of season to find bigger sales.”
The same thing goes for electronics, like laptops and headphones. You’ll see better deals on those in July. “That’s because we’re going to see Amazon Prime Day around that time. Other stores like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target will also release their own sales,” Woroch said.
Before you shop, make sure you have a plan. Don’t buy something just because it’s on sale. Do some cost-comparison shopping online before visiting a store, and stack coupons. Woroch recommends CouponCabin.com for extra discounts.
