The outside tips for US Open glory at Pinehurst as top Scot and Brit eye win

Must read

The US Open is one of the hardest tournaments to win in professional golf but a host of top players will be eyeing victory this summer.

Scottie Scheffler clinched Masters glory in April while Xander Schauffele was the PGA Championship winner last month and now the third major of the year is upon us.

Golf’s best will head to the iconic Pinehurst Course No.2 for the prestigious event.

And while a host of favourites are heading to North Carolina in fine form, there are plenty of other big names in contention further down the bookies’ lists.

Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick and Jon Rahm are the last three US Open champions but who will write their name on the famous trophy at Pinehurst?

Tommy Fleetwood 40/1

Will this finally be the year Fleetwood wins his first major?

The Englishman has established himself as a top player on the PGA Tour, but despite all of his talent, he’s yet to win an event.

He’s gone close on plenty of occasions, including finishing T3 at The Masters earlier this year, but it’s just never happened for Fleetwood.

It’s a strange one, but he’s heading to Pinehurst off the back of a decent season and looks a good bet to perform well.

Robert MacIntyre 50/1

MacIntyre heads into the US Open off the back of his first PGA Tour win at the Canadian Open.

The Scotsman produced an excellent display over four days to hold off the competition, including a late charge from Rory McIlroy to get the win.

His record at the majors isn’t great, although he did finish T8 at the recent PGA Championship, so MacIntyre is definitely in some good form.

It would be a great story if he could follow on from his first PGA Tour win with a major.

Kim is one of the few players on the PGA Tour who has elected to take part in nearly every tournament so far this year.

The South Korean has been playing at least two golf tournaments a month and has three PGA Tour wins to his name.

He finished T4 in the Canadian Open and was second in 2023’s Open in Britain.

So, he’s a player who has been threatening to finally win a major and this could be his time.

Corey Conners 70/1

Conners has tasted success twice on the PGA Tour in his career, including the Texas Open in 2023.

But he’s one of many players who has never had any success at a major.

His best finish came at The Masters in 2022 when he was T6.

This season has seen Conners steadily tick along, finishing inside the top 20 four times, so he’s well placed to mount a surprise challenge.
