A custom-built lodge tucked away in the woods stands out from other homes on Dauphin Island, a picturesque town surrounded by water just off Alabama’s coast.
Built in 2018, the compound has served as a fisherman’s paradise for the last six years. But now, the owner has put the mansion on the market for nearly $5 million, making it the most expensive home for sale on the island.
Called The Lodge at Dauphin Island, the 4,400 square-foot property has 6 bedrooms, 6-and-half baths and is situated on a 2.2 acre lot. A tournament fisherman built the compound so he and other competitors could have a place to stay when out on the water, said Grace Tyson, a Realtor and the listing agent for the property.
Tyson, who has owned and operated Grace Tyson Realty since 1991, said there’s no other property like the lodge on Dauphin Island, a vacation destination close to Mobile and Pensacola that’s become more and more popular for snowbirds looking for a second home away from the cold. She’s also helped people from New Orleans and across Louisiana find beach homes there.
The estate has an open concept floor plan anchored by a unique stone fireplace. There are white oak walls and ceilings, solid cedar box beams and “two spacious ensuite bedrooms that provide ultimate comfort and relaxation,” according to the real estate listing.
The outdoor space includes a fire pit, saltwater pool and a 5,000 square-feet accessory building with four bay doors where boats can be parked and stored. It’s also cooled, Tyson said.
The mansion can also be listed as a vacation rental if the owner has the proper licensing to do so in Dauphin Island.
