“We’ve gone from borrowing spaces to producing our shows to now being able to afford a home of our own.”

The Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival and Interference series have a new venue for indoor performances opening this month. The Beaver Street Theatre, at 11 S. Beaver Street #2, will seat 75 people and provide flexible staging, a dedicated space for artists, staff and storage, rental opportunities for artists and an in-person box office.

Calling the new venue an “exciting milestone,” Flagstaff Shakespeare Festival Executive Director Dawn Tucker says the organization’s ability to secure a permanent theatre demonstrates how much the community values and supports the arts.

Over the past 10 years, FlagShakes has grown from a passionate idea into a thriving organization that’s deeply rooted in the Flagstaff community,” she said. “We’ve gone from borrowing spaces to producing our shows to now being able to afford a home of our own. The new space will allow us to not only continue bringing incredible theatre to Flagstaff but also expand our programs, offer more educational opportunities and deepen our impact.”

While summer performances will continue to be hosted under FlagShakes’ festival tent, Marketing Director Hannah Johnson says the Beaver Street Theatre is a space for local artists to create, rehearse and perform year-round. “The Beaver Street Theatre fills a need for a small venue that is affordable and centrally located for not only FlagShakes and Interference Series, but many other arts and culture organizations and individuals.”

Organizations such as Creative Flagstaff, the Flagstaff Festival of Science, Flagstaff International Film Festival, Flagstaff Foundry and Flagstaff Improv are among those supporting the new endeavor. For more information, visit FlagShakes.org. FBN
