LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – For those still shopping for back-to-school items, this Friday, August 9, marks the beginning of Texas’ tax-free weekend.
The tax-free weekend covers most clothing, shoes, school supplies, and backpacks priced under $100, according to the Texas Comptroller. Shoppers can make purchases in-store or online from businesses operating in Texas, as long as transactions occur during the holiday weekend.
Eugenio Canche, manager at Las Novedades and Los Angeles Wholesale, encourages shoppers to take advantage of the savings. “We have the clear backpacks that the two school districts are requiring. Ours have been approved. They’re thicker material, they’re reinforced, they’re clear, and it’s a good price,” Canche said.
The tax-free weekend ends Sunday, August 11.
