Suspect “lucky to be alive” after sabotaging electrical infrastructure in Colorado town | OutThere Colorado

A suspect who’s actions led to a power outage in Colorado is lucky to be alive after allegedly sabotaging the electrical infrastructure of Commerce City. While the suspect escaped the scene with their life, they did lose some clothing in the process.

According to local police, a United Power outage earlier this month prompted crews to inspect a transformer in the area of 10500 Havana Street. Upon arrival, personnel was shocked at what was found.

With the outage taking place in the early morning hours of December 12, evidence at the scene of the transformer pointed to a person using a hacksaw to cut through an electrical wire. Still at the scene was an abandoned bicycle and the charred remains of someone’s clothing.

“With the amount of electricity the power company believes likely went through the person who cut the wire, we assumed we were looking for a body,” read the report from Commerce City Police Department. “But we never found one.”

Further investigation into the situation revealed that the incident was captured on a security camera. The video showed two explosions, followed by a person walking away into the darkness – though the image of the person wasn’t high-quality enough to aid in finding a suspect.

Police hope that someone will recognize the bike or may have seen the suspect walking elsewhere around town, possibly half-nude after the incident.

Anyone with information related to the case should call the police tip line at 303-289-3626.
