SUNY Credit Union lists scholarships

The SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union is proud to announce scholarships were awarded to three deserving high school students at their 49th Annual Membership Meeting held on May 21.

In 1974, Frances C. Granata was the first President of the SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union. In her honor, the 25th annual Frances C. Granata Scholarship was awarded to Ava Hartung.

She is also the recipient of a New York Credit Union Association’s statewide scholarship. She is one of 57 winners the Association recognized for their hard work.

Hartung, daughter of Benjamin and April Hartung, is a senior at Fredonia High School. Ava is the 2024 valedictorian of her class. She also acts as Student Body Vice President and is a part of the Varsity Girls Tennis Team. Ava is a part of the Model United Nations team and holds executive positions on National Honor Society and Tri-M Honor Society. She is heavily involved in the music department and plays french horn for the symphonic and jazz bands, along with singing for the Chamber Choir and Madrigals select chorus. She is a part of the Advanced Music Program for both horn and voice. Ava also performed in four high school musicals with her most recent role being Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Ava plans to attend Penn State Schreyers Honors College at Berend in the fall, majoring in political science on a pre-law track.

— Reilly Green, a senior at Lake Shore Central High School, is the recipient of the 25th annual Paul T. Schonhart scholarship. This scholarship is given in honor of Mr. Schonhart and his term as the Credit Union’s Board President from 1983-1998. Reilly Green is the daughter of Bruce and Melissa Green. Reilly has taken five advanced placement courses, and is part of the Academy of Business and Finance. She has served as president of Green Eagles, an environmental club which she founded in the summer going into junior year. Currently Reilly serves many other leadership roles such as the president of National Honor Society, Editor in Chief of the Green and White, the student run newspaper. She is also the President of Unified Sports club as well as the Vice President of the Class of 2024, and Treasurer of the Model UN team. She is a dancer at Performing Arts Dance Academy in Hamburg, where she also teaches two dance classes a week. Reilly plans to attend St. John’s University in the fall, majoring in Government and Politics on the Pre Law track.

— Silvana Konegni is the recipient of the 23rd annual Patricia M. Rushboldt scholarship. The scholarship is given in memory of Mrs. Rushboldt, a dedicated employee of the SUNY Fredonia Federal Credit Union for 28 years. Silvana Konegni daughter of Dawn Eckenrode and Jamie Konegni is a senior at Fredonia High School. Silvana is a part of the National Honor Society and participates in the Ambassador Program at Fredonia. She is on the varsity softball team and runs cross country as well. Silvana plans to attend SUNY Fredonia in the fall, majoring in Sports Management to pursue a career in athletic directing.
