Google‘s artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, Gemini is bringing its mobile app to India, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the news on X (formerly known as Twitter). The AI assistant is offering new features and language support to cater to the diverse linguistic landscape of the country.
What Happened: Gemini has rolled out its mobile application in India, providing support for English and nine regional languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. The application is aimed at enabling users to accomplish tasks in their native language, in sync with India’s mobile-first approach.
Both the Gemini app and Gemini Advanced, which provide access to Google’s most sophisticated AI models, will now support these languages. The new features encompass data analysis capabilities, file uploads, and the option to chat with Gemini in Google Messages, initially in English.
Google is also extending the capabilities of Gemini 1.5 Pro, its top-tier model, to Gemini Advanced in the nine Indian languages. With a 10 lakh token context window, Gemini Advanced now claims the longest context of any consumer chatbot available globally.
Android users can access Gemini by downloading the app or opting in through Google Assistant. For iOS users, Gemini will be available directly from the Google app in the coming weeks. Google is also integrating Gemini in Google Messages, offering an additional avenue for users to interact with Gemini on their mobile devices.
