ABILENE, Texas — Most parents know the cost of back-to-school shopping can add up quickly. Nationwide parents spend about $700 per child a year. That’s according to a survey by Coupon Bird. The store director of our local Target says they have a few deals that could help parents keep some money in their pockets.
“We offer 20 essential back to school items for under $20 total,” Eathan Brecheen said. “We’ve got a $5 backpack. That’s the lowest priced backpack we’ve had in over a decade.
Chrissy Phillips was shopping for her kindergartener’s back-to-school supplies. While she was excited for her son’s first day of school, she said the cost of supplies are increasing.
“Maybe around $200,” Phillips said. Not just on supplies. That includes backpacks, lunchboxes, and oh gosh, I’m not even thinking about school clothes.”
According to Brecheen Target’s Denim Takeback Event is another way parents can save on back-to-school shopping.
“Denim takeback starts Aug. 4 and it goes through Aug. 10,” Brecheen said. “We will accept any denim product. You will get a 20 percent discount on new denim purchases in the store. You do have to be a Target Circle Member. So, download that Target app.”
