STOREY COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) – Residents of Storey County will be getting improvements to their broadband internet access thanks to a partnership between Storey County, Google and two other companies.
The project aims to bring broadband access along a 12-mile route to 657 locations in Storey County including Virginia City, Gold Hill and establishments adjacent to Nevada State Route 342 between State Route 50 and Virginia City.
“Google is incredibly appreciative of the collaboration and involvement Storey County, CC Communications, and Rural Innovation Strategies have all had in bringing high-speed internet to every corner of Virginia City,” said Kate Franko, Google’s Regional Head of Data Center Public Affairs. “This effort is fundamental to our mission of nurturing more connected and innovative communities across the nation.”

Permitting for the project is now underway, and construction is expected to begin this summer. Customers are expected to be brought online as locations are passed. The project is expected to be completed by November 2025.
The other two companies involved in the project are CC Communications and Rural Innovation Strategies Inc.
