STEWARTVILLE, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) recently announced the communities selected for its Business Development Public Infrastructure Grant Program.
This month, the City of Stewartville was informed that its application for $1,055,000 had been approved for funding. Sandra Drees from the Stewartville EDA collaborated closely with City Engineer Jenna Obernolte, SEH Business Development Manager Stacey Crakes, and City Finance Director Karla Strain in successfully authoring the grant that will lead to the project’s completion.
To support United Therapeutics’ (UT) addition to the Schumann Business Park, the city will collaborate with UT to create new public infrastructure to encourage future growth and development. The planned cost for the new road and utility extensions is $2,110,000, with awarded funds from DEED assisting in financing the project.
“The city is deeply grateful to DEED for the grant, which was made possible through the outstanding collaboration between City staff and the team at SEH,” said Finance Director Karla Strain in a press release. “This funding will drive continued growth and development within the Schumann Business Park, and we’re excited to see this project move forward.”
Strain explained that United Therapeutics is a biotech medical company that aims to save lives by developing innovative solutions for organ transplantation and pulmonary diseases. United Therapeutics works with partners such as the Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota and the National Institutes of Health to advance the field of organ manufacturing and improve the quality of life for people with end stage organ failure.
Overall project costs will consist of Sanitary and Storm Sewer, Water, Streets & Sidewalks, and engineering costs during construction.
“We are currently working with SEH in drawing up plans for construction and anticipate on going to bid sometime late January,” said Stewartville EDA’s Sandra Drees.
The City of Stewartville anticipates construction of the new roadway and utilities will begin the Summer of 2025.
Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
