STEWARTVILLE, Minn. (KTTC) – Stewartville was awarded $1.055 million in infrastructure grants to assist with constructing streets and public utilities.
The grants were funded through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development’s (DEED) Greater Minnesota Business Development Public Infrastructure Grant Program (BDPI) and Innovative Business Development Public Infrastructure Program (IBDPI).
“Investing in public infrastructure is investing in the wellbeing and vitality of our communities,” said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek. “DEED grants help stimulate local economic development, create jobs and support innovative businesses and organizations.”
The IBDPI funding will assist with constructing streets and public utilities to extend the Schumann Business Park to be used by United Therapeutics.
The company is initially investing $75 million into a facility which is slated to create 22 jobs.
Long term, the company is planning three additional phases that will create an additional 300 jobs.
The total cost of this particular public infrastructure project is $2.11 million.
Stewartville wasn’t the only community to receive this kind of funding.
Chisago City was awarded $214,270 to assist in creating 107 jobs, North Mankato was awarded $1.108 million to assist in creating 225 jobs, and Hermantown was awarded $2 million to assist with creating 290 jobs.
