ONA — The Elkins High School boys and girls are set to compete in the Class AA state meet today at Cabell Midland High School.
The Tiger boys enter the meet first in the runwv.com ratings, with sophomore and regional champion Trevor George the favorite to win the individual title.
George will be challenged by junior teammates Josh Bodkins and Ben Tenney, along with Frankfort’s Ryan Hughes.
The remainder of the EHS squad includes senior Gavin Brown, freshman Treven Schaefer and juniors Bobby Valentine and Preston Nixon.
The Lady Tigers, meanwhile, will be led into the competition by sophomore Emilia Tenney, who crossed first in last week’s regional meet at Davis & Elkins, just ahead of Williamstown’s Alyssa Sauro.
Tenney, Sauro and Herbert Hoover’s Maysen Fletcher are expected to challenge for the individual title.
Sophomore Julia Biola, senior Mallory Bennett and juniors Mya Mendelson, Emma Gilbert, Delia White and Taylor Lanham comprise the Elkins squad.
In the Class AAA race, Buckhannon-Upshur will be represented individually by regional champion and senior Samantha Shreve and senior Jack Waggy and junior Joey Nolte.
Shreve is the favorite to capture the crown
The Tucker County boys are entered in the Class A race after placing second in the regional meet.
Team members include seniors Allen Collar and Ryan Scott, juniors Lynk Suesli, Cameron Judy, Alex Collar, Nate Ricottilli and freshman William Gilligan.
Lady Mountain Lion junior Addi Moats will compete in the girls race.
Action today gets underway with the Class AA girls race at 9 a.m., followed by the Class AA boys at 9:45 a.m.
The Class AAA girls take to the course at noon, Class AAA boys at 12:45 p.m., Class A girls at 3 p.m. and Class A boys at 3:45 p.m.
