State Funding Hits the Road for Local Infrastructure Improvements – WRBI Radio(Indianapolis, IN) – Governor Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation have awarded a total of $139, 764, 832.13 in Community Crossings matching grants to 223 communities across the state.

Seven local communities are among the funding recipients:

  • Brookville – $225,352.50
  • Dearborn County – $1,500,000
  • Decatur County – $375.008.86
  • Dillsboro – $416,700
  • Greensburg – $557,104.34
  • Moores Hill – $137,649.75
  • Versailles – $670,382.25

The funding is available through Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, which can be used for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects.

“With these grants, we can move forward with vital roadway projects that will benefit our communities for years to come,”  said State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville). “This funding represents Indiana’s commitment to Hoosier families, businesses and visitors who rely on our roads.”

A list of all 223 communities receiving matching funds in the 2024 fall call for projects can be found here.

“Hoosiers need and deserve reliable and efficient roads,” said State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon). “This state funding is critical for rural communities like ours that often have limited resources to keep up with infrastructure maintenance and plan for the future.”

To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer.

“Hoosiers and visitors passing through both need one thing: safe and efficient roads,” said State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville). “Through Community Crossings, anyone using our streets can feel more secure about their condition.”

Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.8 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
