ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) – Infrastructure and transportation were the focus of Monday night’s mayoral forum.

The four candidates vying for St. Louis mayor answered questions at Paraquad on Oakland Avenue.

The event was hosted by Trailnet, Paraquad, the St. Louis Coalition to Protect Cyclists & Pedestrians (CP2), the St. Louis Urbanists and Transform 314.

Discussions included planning, accessibility, and funding.

Matt Wyczalkowski tells First Alert 4, he has been biking through St. Louis city streets for more than 22 years.

He says, “St. Louis is a beautiful city and by being on a bicycle you really get to experience it…It’s a lot of fun. I really enjoy it.”

The packed room was filled with people like Wyczalkowski who use different methods of transportation.

“Personally, I do not feel safe on the roads as a driver, as a pedestrian or as a cyclist,” says Alec Velcher, a forum attendee.

Candidates answered questions regarding the Rams’ Settlement, safety, public transit, and how to make the city more walkable.

You have another chance to hear from candidates hoping to become the next mayor of St. Louis.

It is planned for Thursday, February 13th at Harris Stowe University.

This is hosted in partnership with 100 Black Men of Metropolitan St. Louis and Collegiate 100.

It starts at 6 P.M.
