It was East Central over Oldenburg Academy 6-1 Saturday in boys’ soccer. Brennan Lewis scored five goals for the Trojans in the match, which was heard on WRBI.

EC blanked Center Grove 1-0 in girls’ soccer. The Trojans Maria Mayer scored the game’s lone goal.

In cross country, the Batesville girls finished 10th in a 40-school invitational at Terre Haute. The Bulldog boys team came in 20th.

East Central won the 11-team Madison Girls’ Golf Invitational on Saturday. The Trojans’ Rowan Pies carded a 75 to claim medalist honors.

Batesville shut out Richmond on the road 5-0 in boys’ tennis to open the 2024 campaign.

Batesville opened the season the girls’ volleyball season by knocking off Shelbyville in three sets.

The Kansas City Royals completed the weekend series sweep by topping the Reds 8-1 yesterday at Great American Ball Park. The Royals outscored the Reds 28-3 in the three-game series. The Reds embark on a two-city, seven game road trip when they open a three-game interleague series tonight in Toronto against the Blue Jays. Coverage begins after Coaches Corner on 103.9 FM.

In NFL preseason action Saturday, the Bears rolled over the Bengals 27-3 in Chicago, and it was the Colts over the Arizona Cardinals 21-13. The Colts and Bengals will hold a joint practice in Cincinnati tomorrow before hooking up in the preseason finale at Paycor Stadium Thursday night.

The Indiana Fever calmed the Seattle Storm 92-75 in WNBA action yesterday. The Fever is 2-0 since returning from the Olympic break.

In auto racing, Josef Newgarden took the checkered flag at Saturday’s Bommarito Automotive Group IndyCar race in suburban St. Louis.

The NASCAR Cup series race at Michigan International Speedway was suspended yesterday because of rain. They’ll try to run the remaining 149 laps later today.
