South Decatur knocked off Milan in three sets last night in varsity volleyball action. Aniston Bostic had 10 kills for the Cougars while Zsophia Sharp added nine and Makayla Somers had 28 assists.

North Decatur varsity volleyball defeated Rushville in three sets Monday night. Congratulations to the Chargers’ Hannah Gorrell, who notched her 1,000th career dig in the contest.

South Ripley and Batesville split in 7tth and 8th grade volleyball. It was the Raiders over the Bulldogs in two sets in the 7th grade game; Batesville notched its first 8th grade win of the year with a two-set victory over South Ripley.

In 8th grade volleyball, it was East Central over Greensburg in three sets.

Franklin County won a three-team golf match with Greensburg and North Decatur Monday night on the Pirates home links. It was the Wildcats 191, Greensburg 192 and the Chargers 233. Payton Bright led the way for the Pirates with a career-best 45.

Kickoff for Friday night’s East Central at Harrison football game has been moved to 8 p.m. because of the excessive heat. The kickoff time is one hour later than originally scheduled. We’ll have that contest, streaming on the WRBI app beginning with pregame Friday at 7:40.

The Oakland Athletics got past the Reds 5-4 last night at Great American Ball Park. The A’s were aided by two homers and four runs in the top of the seventh inning off losing pitcher Tony Santillan. Jackob Junis was pressed into an emergency spot start for the Reds after Nick Lodolo went on the injured list with a sprained left middle finger. Junis pitched four perfect innings and struck out three. The Reds have lost eight of their last 11 games and fall to 63-69 on the year. Game two of the series is tonight.
