Batesville High School girls’ golf finished fifth in the 18-team Trojan Classic at Center Grove on Saturday. Bulldog Junior Ava South tied for sixth in the 96-player field by shooting a 34. After this weekend’s finish, Batesville moves up to #10 in the Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association rankings.

South Ripley came in second behind Southwestern Hanover in a girls golf match at North Branch that included Jac-Cen-Del. Raiders #1 golfer Lilly Jones was overcome by the heat and unable to finish. Callie Comer led South Ripley by shooting a 61. Jocelyn Meador tied her career best score when she shot a 63.

Batesville girls’ cross country finished third at the 26-school Greensburg Invitational yesterday. Bulldog 8th grader Ava Wade set a new meet record with an individual time of 11:29. The host Pirates came in first as a team with 69 points followed closely by New Palestine with 70 and Batesville at 73. In JV action, Aubrey Weberding recorded a winning time of 13:59. In the boys’ race, 7th grader Cael Luhman led Batesville with a 17th overall finish in a time of 12:27.

Batesville Middle School volleyball dropped both the 7th and 8th grade matches to St. Nicholas last night. The Saints took the 7th grade contest two sets to one, while St. Nicholas won the 8th grade tilt in two games.

The Reds open their next to last homestand of the season tonight when they begin a three-game interleague set against the Oakland A’s. Coverage begins at 6:10 on 103.9 WRBI.

The Bengals yesterday waived rookie defensive end Justin Blazek, who signed with the team as a free agent in May. NFL teams are making roster cuts in order to get down to the 53-man limit by 4:00 this afternoon.

In WNBA action last night, the Indiana Fever topped the Atlanta Dream 84-79. Kelsey Mitchell led the way with 29 points; Caitlin Clark added 19 and Aliyah Boston poured in 14 for the Fever, who improve to 14-16 on the year.
