Southwest Airlines has made a significant move by making its flight schedules available on Google Flights starting this Wednesday. This development marks a departure from Southwest’s long-standing practice of restricting flight searches to its official website.
With this new partnership, Google Flights users can now compare Southwest’s fare options alongside those of other airlines. While travelers can view and compare fares on Google Flights, they will still need to complete their bookings on Southwest’s website by clicking through from Google Flights.
This change offers a more convenient way for travelers to consider Southwest Airlines when planning their trips, although the airline has not specified how long this pilot program will last or if there will be further changes in the future.
The announcement of this integration follows hints made by Southwest Airlines during their first-quarter earnings call in April, where potential adjustments to the airline’s boarding process were also mentioned.
It is important to note that this integration is currently exclusive to Google Flights, so Southwest flights will not appear on other flight aggregators such as Kayak or Skyscanner. However, since last year, Southwest flights have been bookable through Chase Travel, a development that gained attention in March.
