Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit, the premier hotel for Sofitel Hotels in Southeast Asia, has recently been honored with its first certification from Green Globe. This 32-story hotel, inspired by art deco and located in the bustling heart of Sukhumvit in downtown Bangkok, epitomizes French sophistication.
Despite its recent recognition, the hotel has been proactive in adopting environmentally sustainable practices. This includes the use of Smart Room technology, which provides real-time management of the air conditioning systems to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
David Talbot, Hotel Manager said, “We are very proud to achieve our first Green Globe certification. It represents our commitment to sustainable practices throughout all departments within our hotel. All of us at Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit look forward to working on our sustainability initiatives and engaging further with our community in the future.”
The hotel has also significantly reduced its food waste by 20% through the implementation of the Winnow system. This system helps kitchen staff track and analyze waste, assisting chefs in refining the menu at the all-day dining restaurant to reduce future waste.
Efforts to eliminate single-use plastic amenities are ongoing, with soap dispensers now installed in both public and private bathrooms. In rooms that still provide traditional soap bars, the remnants are collected and donated to the Soap for Hope initiative, which recycles and distributes them to communities in need.
A commitment to sustainability is evident in the hotel’s approach to reuse. After recent renovations, much of the furniture was refurbished rather than replaced. Tables were restored, chairs were repainted, and a policy of returning reusable seafood containers to suppliers was established to minimize waste.
Additionally, the hotel is transitioning away from plastic water bottles by introducing new water filtration systems and hydration stations for guests and staff.
